Indemnity.exe selected for MetroCAF 2021
This year's group animation, Indemnity.exe has been selected for the MetroCAF 2021 festival! MetroCAF is the annual NYC Metropolitan Area College Computer Animation Festival organized by the New York City chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH. Congratulations to the animation students who created the film: Alyssa Cirillo, Mike Gatta, Lauren Haug, Jeremy Kaston, Emily Ronan, and Connor Trapani. Congratulations also to composer Max Adolf, a Music Production student at Monmouth University.
MetroCAF 2021 will be virtual this year. You can view the livestream of the show on Friday, September 24 UPDATE: October 8 at 7:30 PM EDT. The awards for Individual, Small Group, Large Group, and Best of Show will be presented at the end of the screening.

SIGGRAPH 2020 is this week and Virtual
The SIGGRAPH conference went virtual this year and moved to this week, and I am "attending".
If you Google "siggraph 2020 basic pass code" you may be able to get a basic pass and take a look!
At the exhibition at least, basic does not get you much more, though Education Committee BOF sessions are accessible with a Basic pass.

This year's SIGGRAPH conference offers a unique opportunity as it takes place on the east coast, for the first time since 2006. You can be part of it as a student volunteer but need to get your application in next Tuesday. SIGGRAPH 2018 ET in NYC
On Wednesday, November 14, NYC ACM SIGGRAPH will be hosting a very special screening of the SIGGRAPH 2018 Computer Animation Festival Traveling Show, presented by Mikki Rose, the SIGGRAPH 2019 Conference Chair!
The screening will start at 7:00PM at FIT's Haft Auditorium.

VFX 2 VR
Our local SIGGRAPH chapter organized an event called "From Visual Effects to Virtual Reality" - "This evening will feature presentations from a number of NYC-area production houses that have long been known for their visual effects and CG work but are now producing VR content as well." - Well worth checking out if you are into VR. Which should be if you are into animation!

Manufacturing Animation
At last year's SIGGRAPH I had the pleasure of meeting Shuzo John Shiota, president of Polygon Pictures. This week I found this interesting talk he gave, that reveals some of the inner workings of an animation studio. He is Japanese, but his English should be easy to follow for you - he studied in the US, hence the "John" part of his name.

The call for the SIGGRAPH 2016 Student Volunteer Program is up. If you get in, I will count the hours worked towards your summer internship. But that is not an incentive you need really. It is an unique opportunity to rub shoulders with the major players in the field of computer graphics and interactive techniques!
